Marine Battery Brands Compared: Which Fits Your Boat?

Shopping for a marine battery means sorting through brands as much as specs. Some brands focus on lithium, some on lead-acid, some on chargers. Some make dozens of sizes; others specialize. This guide compares the brands we carry, based on the product listings in our store, so you can see where each one fits and which guides to read next.
How to compare brands
Before getting into each brand, decide what matters most for your boat:
- Chemistry: lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, flooded or enhanced flooded.
- Role: starting, deep-cycle, dual-purpose, trolling motor, house bank.
- Voltage: 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V, and whether you want a single case or a series bank.
- Features: Bluetooth monitoring, internal heating for cold charging, waterproof ratings.
- Warranty: length and type (free replacement, pro-rated or capacity-based).
- Fit: BCI group size and terminal type.
- Budget: upfront price and cost over the battery’s life.

EPOCH
EPOCH offers one of the widest lithium lineups we carry, from compact 12V batteries to 48V Elite models, plus chargers, DC-DC chargers and exact-fit trays. Their lines differ in features: Essential and Elite models list 11-year warranties and Bluetooth, while the Eco series is a lower-cost line without Bluetooth or heating. Read the EPOCH marine battery guide.
Dakota Lithium
Dakota Lithium’s dual-purpose DL models combine starting power and deep-cycle capacity, such as a 12V 60Ah model listing 1000 CCA, and their batteries list 11-year warranties. They also make trolling motor connection kits and chargers. See the Dakota Lithium marine battery guide.
Battle Born
Battle Born is a well-known name in lithium deep-cycle batteries, with 12V models in group 24, 27/31, GC2 and GC3 sizes, a 24V 50Ah model, and compact base-series batteries. They also make marine-rated MRBF fuses and fuse blocks. See the Battle Born batteries boat guide.
Lithium Rhino
Lithium Rhino’s marine conversion kits package 24V and 36V lithium power for trolling motors in IP67-rated cases with Bluetooth. Read Lithium Rhino marine conversion kits.
ECO Battery
ECO Battery’s 12V 120Ah model combines internal heating, Bluetooth, IP67 rating and CAN/NMEA 2000 communications. Availability varies. See the ECO Battery lithium marine guide.
Trojan
Trojan is known for deep-cycle lead-acid batteries, including the 6V golf-cart batteries many boaters wire in pairs for house banks, plus 12V flooded and AGM deep-cycle models. Read the Trojan marine batteries guide.
Interstate
Interstate covers almost every role: flooded starting batteries, deep-cycle SRM models, enhanced flooded (EFB), AGM dual-purpose and lithium marine batteries, with free-replacement warranties listed by model. See the Interstate marine batteries guide.
Allied Lithium
In our store, Allied Lithium is represented by waterproof 36V and 48V 15A lithium chargers for trolling motors and electric propulsion. See the Allied Lithium chargers guide.
Lithium features compared
Feature sets matter more than logos when you narrow down a lithium battery. Based on our listings:
- Bluetooth monitoring is listed on EPOCH Essential, Elite and Pro models, Lithium Rhino kits, ECO Battery and some Battle Born variations. EPOCH Eco and Dakota Lithium’s DL models list no Bluetooth.
- Internal heating for cold-weather charging is listed on many EPOCH Essential and Elite models, the Dakota Lithium 135Ah, the ECO Battery 120Ah and some Battle Born variations.
- Waterproof ratings of IP67 are listed on EPOCH Elite models, Lithium Rhino kits and the ECO Battery 120Ah. Others list lower ratings or none.
- Starting capability is listed on Dakota Lithium’s DL dual-purpose line, EPOCH’s 172Ah and 300Ah dual-purpose models and Interstate’s 24M dual-purpose lithium.
If you fish in cold weather, heating matters. If you want to see state of charge on your phone, Bluetooth matters. If the battery sits in a wet hatch, a higher ingress rating is reassuring, though no battery should sit in bilge water.
Lead-acid choices compared
For boaters staying with lead-acid, Trojan and Interstate cover the main options. Trojan is strongest in deep-cycle: 6V golf-cart batteries for house banks and 12V flooded and AGM deep-cycle models. Interstate covers starting, deep-cycle, enhanced flooded and AGM dual-purpose batteries in common marine group sizes like 24M, 27M and 31M. Flooded batteries cost the least upfront; AGM costs more but is sealed and maintenance-free.
Matching brands to boats
- Bass and walleye boats with 36V trolling motors: single-case 36V lithium from EPOCH, Lithium Rhino or Interstate, or a set of 12V batteries.
- Center consoles: AGM start batteries from Interstate, with lithium or AGM house banks.
- Pontoons: dual-purpose AGM or lithium from Interstate, Dakota Lithium or EPOCH.
- Sailboats and cruisers: large house banks: EPOCH 12V 300Ah or 460Ah, Battle Born GC2 or GC3, or Trojan 6V pairs.
- Small boats and kayaks: compact lithium from Battle Born, Dakota Lithium or EPOCH.
