Dakota Lithium Marine Batteries: Lineup Guide

Dakota Lithium is a popular name with anglers, and its batteries show up on everything from kayaks to bass boats. This guide covers the Dakota Lithium products in our store, what makes them different and how to choose the right one for your boat. Specs here come from our product listings, which are based on manufacturer information; always check the product page for current details and availability.
What Dakota Lithium is known for
- LiFePO4 chemistry across the line
- Dual-purpose models that can start engines and run deep-cycle loads
- Long listed warranties: 11 years on the batteries in our listings
- Fishing-focused accessories like trolling motor connection kits
The DL dual-purpose line
Dakota Lithium’s DL batteries are designed to do two jobs: crank an engine and power accessories. That’s handy on boats with room for only one battery, or for anglers who want to cut weight without separate start and house batteries.
| Model | Capacity | CCA | Group | Weight | Heating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DL 12V 25Ah | 25Ah | 300 | Compact | 6.4 lb | No |
| DL 12V 60Ah | 60Ah | 1000 | 24 | 16.5 lb | No |
| DL 12V 135Ah heated | 135Ah | 1000 | 24 | 27.2 lb | Yes |
DL 12V 25Ah
A small dual-purpose battery listing 300 CCA, 30A continuous discharge and 300Wh of energy. It suits small outboards, personal watercraft and compact electronics setups. Check your engine’s cranking requirement.
DL 12V 60Ah
A group 24 battery listing 1000 CCA and 100A continuous discharge, with 720Wh of energy and M8 bolt terminals. It’s a strong choice for single-battery boats that need starting power plus electronics.
DL 12V 135Ah heated
The flagship of the line in our store, with 135Ah, 1000 CCA, 135A continuous discharge, an IP65 rating and internal heating that allows charging in cold weather. It lists 1620Wh of energy and 340 minutes of reserve capacity. It’s a strong fit for anglers who fish early and late in the season. The heater matters because LiFePO4 normally can’t be charged below freezing; see heated lithium batteries and cold charging.

Compact batteries
The Dakota Lithium 12V 10Ah mini weighs under 2 pounds and suits fish finders on kayaks and small boats.
Cycle life
Dakota’s listings for the DL line state up to 80% capacity after 5,000 cycles in recommended conditions. Real life depends on depth of discharge, temperature and charging.
Trolling motor connection kits
Dakota Lithium offers trolling motor connection kits in 12V, 24V and 36V versions, some with onboard charging leads. They provide a ready-made way to connect batteries to the motor. In-stock options include the 24V kit with on-board charging.
Chargers
Dakota lists 12V 10A or 20A chargers as recommended for its DL batteries. In our store, Dakota chargers include a 24V 10A LiFePO4 charger and a 48V 22A onboard charger. Any LiFePO4-compatible charger with the right voltage and current will work; see Allied Lithium chargers for another waterproof option.
Availability
Some Dakota Lithium models, including several deep-cycle trolling batteries and battery sets, are currently listed as out of stock in our store. Check the product pages, or consider equivalent batteries from other brands.
Choosing a Dakota Lithium battery
- Single-battery boat: DL 12V 60Ah or 135Ah heated, depending on accessory use and climate.
- Small boat or PWC: DL 12V 25Ah, if it meets the engine’s cranking needs.
- Kayak electronics: 12V 10Ah mini.
- Cold climate: DL 12V 135Ah heated.
Dakota Lithium vs other brands
Dakota’s strengths are dual-purpose capability and long listed warranties. Compared with Battle Born, Dakota’s DL line emphasizes cranking power, while Battle Born focuses on deep-cycle sizes; see Dakota Lithium vs Battle Born. Compared with EPOCH, Dakota’s DL batteries list no Bluetooth monitoring, while many EPOCH models do; see the EPOCH marine battery guide. Example setups
Jon boat or small skiff with a tiller outboard. One DL 12V 60Ah handles electric start, a fish finder and nav lights. At 16.5 pounds, it’s a fraction of the weight of a group 24 lead-acid battery, which helps small boats sit level and plane sooner. Recharge after each trip with a 12V LiFePO4 charger.
Bass or walleye boat in a northern state. A DL 12V 135Ah heated battery serves as the cranking and electronics battery, while the trolling motor runs on its own bank. The heater lets the battery accept charge on cold spring and fall mornings, when unheated LiFePO4 would refuse. The 1000 CCA rating covers most outboards, but confirm your engine’s requirement.
Pontoon with a stereo and lights. A DL 12V 135Ah gives plenty of capacity for an afternoon of music at the sandbar while still holding enough reserve to start the engine. Many pontoon owners still prefer a separate start battery for peace of mind; a battery switch or ACR keeps the two apart.
Things to confirm before buying
- Engine cranking requirement. Compare the CCA or MCA in your engine manual with the battery’s rating.
- Alternator compatibility. Some outboards charge lithium fine; others benefit from a DC-DC charger. Follow Dakota’s and your engine maker’s guidance.
- Tray and terminal fit. The 60Ah and 135Ah models are group 24 size with M8 bolt terminals. Make sure your cable lugs fit.
- Charger profile. Set any onboard charger to LiFePO4.
Installation tips
- Secure the battery with a tray and strap. The Dakota Lithium marine battery tray fits group 24 batteries.
- Fuse the positive close to the battery.
- Use a lithium-compatible charger.
- Follow Dakota’s guidance on alternator charging.
