Battle Born Batteries for Boats: Lineup Guide

Two lithium batteries wired together under a lifted cushion in a cruising boat's wooden settee

Battle Born is one of the most recognized names in lithium deep-cycle batteries, especially in the RV and marine house bank world. This guide covers the Battle Born batteries and accessories in our store, how their sizes compare and how to fit them to a boat. Specs come from our product listings, based on manufacturer information. Check product pages for current details.

What Battle Born offers

  • 12V LiFePO4 deep-cycle batteries in several case sizes
  • A 24V 50Ah battery
  • Compact base-series batteries for small loads
  • Marine-rated MRBF fuses and fuse blocks

Main battery lineup

Model Capacity Case Weight Approx. lead-acid equivalent*
12V 75Ah 75Ah Group 24 27 lb 150Ah
12V 100Ah 100Ah Group 27/31 31 lb 200Ah
12V 100Ah GC2 100Ah GC2 31 lb 200Ah
12V 270Ah GC3 270Ah GC3 80.8 lb 540Ah
24V 50Ah 50Ah Group 27/31 31 lb n/a

*Battle Born’s listings give a lead-acid equivalent based on usable capacity.

12V 100Ah

The workhorse of the line, in a case that fits group 27 and 31 trays. It’s common for house banks, 12V trolling motors and series 24V or 36V banks. Bluetooth and heating vary by variation, so check which version you’re buying.

12V 100Ah GC2

Same capacity in a golf-cart (GC2) footprint. It’s a natural upgrade for boats with 6V golf-cart batteries in a house bank, where two 6V batteries were wired in series for 12V. One GC2 lithium battery replaces the pair.

12V 270Ah GC3

A large house battery for sailboats and cruisers. At 80.8 pounds, it’s heavy for lithium but far lighter than equivalent lead-acid capacity.

12V 75Ah group 24

A smaller footprint for boats with group 24 trays.

24V 50Ah

A 24V battery in a single case for 24V trolling motors or 24V systems.

At-a-glance summary: Battle Born offers 12V lithium deep-cycle batteries in group 24, 27/31, GC2 and GC3 sizes, plus a 24V 50Ah model; Listings show 3,000 to 5,000 cycles, 100% usable depth of discharge and series connections up to 48V; Battle Born's MRBF fuses and fuse blocks protect high-current lithium installs right at the battery
Key takeaways: Battle Born Batteries for Boats: Lineup Guide

Key specs from the listings

  • Cycle life: 3,000–5,000 cycles
  • Usable depth of discharge: 100%
  • Charging voltage: 14.2–14.6V for 12V models
  • Self-discharge: 2–3% per month
  • Maximum series voltage: 48V

Base series

Battle Born’s base-series batteries (10Ah, 20Ah and 30Ah, 12V) are compact batteries for fish finders, kayaks and small electronics. They list 5-year warranties, no Bluetooth and no heating.

Fuses and fuse blocks

Lithium batteries can deliver very high fault current, so fusing close to the battery is essential. Battle Born’s marine-rated 300A MRBF fuse and MRBF fuse block mount right at the battery terminal. See Lithium Rhino conversion kits for an all-in-one alternative for trolling motors.

Battle Born on boats

House banks

Two or more 12V 100Ah batteries in parallel make a large house bank. Make sure all are the same model and age.

Trolling motors

Two batteries in series for 24V, three for 36V. Battle Born’s listings allow series connections up to 48V.

Mixed systems

Keep an AGM or lithium start battery for the engine and charge the Battle Born bank through a DC-DC charger.

Charging

Use a LiFePO4 profile at 14.2–14.6V for 12V batteries. Avoid equalization. For alternator charging, a DC-DC charger protects the alternator and charges correctly.

Warranty

Our listings show 5-year warranties on base-series batteries but don’t list warranty terms for the larger models. Check Battle Born’s current warranty terms before buying.

Battle Born vs other brands

Compared with EPOCH, Battle Born focuses on fewer sizes; EPOCH offers more voltages and features. See the EPOCH marine battery guide. Compared with Dakota Lithium, Battle Born focuses on deep-cycle use while Dakota’s DL line emphasizes cranking; see Dakota Lithium vs Battle Born and the Dakota Lithium guide. The marine battery brands compared pillar and marine battery comparisons cover the rest.

Example setups

Sailboat house bank. A 34-foot cruiser replaces four 6V golf-cart batteries (two series pairs) with two 12V 100Ah GC2 batteries in parallel. The new bank fits the same trays, weighs about half as much and delivers its full rated capacity. The owner sets the shore charger to a LiFePO4 profile, adds a DC-DC charger from the engine’s start battery and installs an MRBF fuse at each battery.

36V bass boat trolling bank. Three 12V 100Ah batteries in series replace three group 31 lead-acid batteries. The bank holds voltage through a full day of spot-locking, and the weight savings help the boat get on plane. Because the batteries are matched, the bank stays balanced; a 3-bank lithium charger keeps each one topped up.

Small skiff electronics. A 12V 30Ah base-series battery runs a fish finder and a small livewell pump for a day, at 8.6 pounds.

Things to check before buying

  • Variation. Several Battle Born models come in versions with or without Bluetooth and heating. Confirm which one you’re ordering.
  • Charge current. Base-series models list maximum charge currents (5A to 15A); don’t exceed them with a large charger.
  • Discharge current. Make sure the battery’s continuous rating covers your load, especially for trolling motors and inverters.
  • Series and parallel rules. Use matched batteries and follow Battle Born’s limits.

Converting from lead-acid

When you replace lead-acid batteries with Battle Born lithium, a few changes are usually needed. Switch the charger to a LiFePO4 profile, or replace it if it doesn’t have one. Check that the alternator setup is suitable, and add a DC-DC charger if needed. Replace any corroded cables while you have access, and add a fuse close to each battery. Finally, recalculate your capacity: because lithium’s full rating is usable, a 100Ah lithium battery typically replaces about 200Ah of lead-acid for daily use, which is what Battle Born’s lead-acid equivalent figures reflect.

Choosing a Battle Born battery

  1. Group 27/31 tray: 12V 100Ah.
  2. Golf-cart house bank: 12V 100Ah GC2.
  3. Large cruiser house bank: 12V 270Ah GC3.
  4. Group 24 tray: 12V 75Ah.
  5. 24V system in one case: 24V 50Ah.
  6. Small electronics: base series.
