Boating around Orlando
The Butler Chain of Lakes in Windermere is known for clear water and lake homes. The Winter Park Chain of Lakes is connected by canals.
Many Orlando-area lakes are private or have neighborhood rules, while others have public ramps run by Orange County or the city. The Butler Chain, which includes Lake Butler, Lake Down and several smaller lakes, is known for very clear water and is popular for skiing and wakeboarding. The Winter Park Chain is a slower, scenic cruise through canals lined with old Florida homes. Lake Conway, on the south side of the city, is another popular ski and fishing lake.
What people run and fish for in Orlando
Watersports, pontoon cruising and bass fishing. Wake boats with big stereos are common.
Batteries that fit Orlando boats
Ski boats and wake boats
Watersports boats around Orlando often have audio systems that can drain a battery fast. A 12V lithium house battery gives long runtime without risking your start.
Pontoon boats
Pontoon owners in Orlando often ask for more runtime for speakers and lights without giving up a reliable start. A 12V 100Ah lithium battery as a house battery, paired with a dual-purpose AGM for cranking, is a simple and popular setup. If you prefer one battery, choose a dual-purpose model with enough cranking amps for your outboard.
Bass boats
Bass boats on the Butler Chain of Lakes usually run a 24V or 36V trolling motor and a separate cranking battery, plus electronics that can draw several amps at the console and bow. Lithium trolling batteries hold full voltage until nearly empty, so the motor doesn’t slow down late in the day, and they save a lot of weight in the back of the boat.
Seasons and storage
Wake boats need separate house batteries for audio.
Many inland boats are trailered and sit between trips. A maintenance charger or a lithium battery helps.
Central Florida’s lakes are fresh water, so corrosion is less of a problem, but summer heat is just as tough on batteries. Keep them charged and stored out of direct sun.
