Finding the right Dakota Lithium marine batteries

Trolling motors

For a 12V trolling motor, a single 12V deep-cycle battery is the simplest choice. For 24V and 36V motors, you can choose a native 24V or 36V Dakota Lithium battery, which takes one case and one set of connections. Or choose a 24V or 36V set of 12V batteries, which fits split compartments and lets you spread weight. Starting and dual purpose

The DL+ batteries are dual purpose. They’re rated in cold cranking amps for starting, and built for deep cycling too. Compare the listed CCA with your engine manufacturer’s requirement. Charging and connecting

Like all LiFePO4 batteries, Dakota Lithium batteries need a charger with a lithium profile. Dakota Lithium’s onboard chargers are built for its batteries and come in 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V versions; see Chargers. If your outboard’s alternator will charge a lithium battery, read charging lithium on a boat first.

The Connect-Ease kits in Accessories take the guesswork out of series wiring, fused connections and charger leads. For running 12V electronics off a higher-voltage bank, use a DC-DC converter rather than tapping a single battery.

Are Dakota Lithium batteries waterproof?

Some models list an IP rating for water and dust resistance. Check the specifications table on each product page, and always mount batteries in a dry, secured location.

Can I charge Dakota Lithium batteries in cold weather?

LiFePO4 shouldn’t be charged below freezing unless the battery has internal heating. Some DL+ models do; the product page will say.

Can I replace my lead-acid trolling batteries with Dakota Lithium?
