Battle Born vs EPOCH for Boats

Battle Born and EPOCH both make LiFePO4 deep-cycle batteries that boaters use for house banks, trolling motors and electronics. Battle Born is one of the best-known names in drop-in lithium, while EPOCH has built one of the broadest lineups we carry. This comparison looks at how they line up on the things that matter on a boat, using our product listings. Specs, warranty terms and stock can change, so check product pages before buying.
The short version
- Choose Battle Born if you want a deep-cycle battery in a golf-cart (GC2 or GC3) footprint, or a group 27/31 100Ah battery from a well-known name.
- Choose EPOCH if you want Bluetooth, internal heating, a single-case 36V or 48V battery, very large 12V capacities or a lower-priced Eco option.

Head-to-head: the 100Ah class
Battle Born 12V 100Ah vs EPOCH 12V 105Ah Essential vs EPOCH 12V 100Ah Eco
- Battle Born 100Ah: group 27/31 case, 31 lb, 3,000–5,000 cycles listed, Bluetooth and heating depending on version.
- EPOCH 105Ah Essential: group 24 case, 22.1 lb, Bluetooth, heating, 105A continuous, 11-year listed warranty.
- EPOCH 100Ah Eco: group 24 case, 21 lb, no Bluetooth or heating, 100A continuous, 6-year listed warranty, lower price.
The EPOCH batteries are lighter and fit a smaller tray. The Battle Born fits group 27/31 trays, which some boats already have. If you want features, the Essential leads. If you want the lowest-cost route into lithium, the Eco is the budget choice. If you want a long-established brand in a 27/31 case, Battle Born fits.
Head-to-head: large house banks
Battle Born 12V 270Ah GC3 vs EPOCH 12V 300Ah Essential vs EPOCH 12V 314Ah Eco
- Battle Born 270Ah: GC3 footprint, 80.8 lb.
- EPOCH 300Ah Essential: group 31 size, 58 lb, Bluetooth, heating, 200A continuous.
- EPOCH 314Ah Eco: group 31 size, 57 lb, 250A continuous, no Bluetooth or heating.
EPOCH offers more capacity at noticeably lower weight in a group 31 case. Battle Born’s GC3 suits boats built around golf-cart trays. For very large banks, EPOCH’s 334Ah and 460Ah models go further still.
Head-to-head: golf-cart footprints
Many cruisers and sailboats were built with trays for 6V golf-cart batteries. Battle Born’s 12V 100Ah GC2 drops into a GC2 tray and replaces a pair of 6V lead-acid batteries. EPOCH’s lineup in our store doesn’t include a GC2-size battery, so a group 31 or 8D model would mean changing the tray. See Battle Born GC2 vs group 27/31.
Head-to-head: 24V
- Battle Born 24V 50Ah: group 27/31 case, 31 lb.
- EPOCH 24V 60Ah Pro: group 27 size, 30 lb, IP67, Bluetooth, heating.
- EPOCH 24V 100Ah: 48.5 lb, IP67, heating, Bluetooth, 120A continuous.
EPOCH’s 24V 60Ah Pro offers slightly more capacity at a similar weight, plus IP67, Bluetooth and heating. For long days on a 24V motor, the 24V 100Ah gives much more range.
36V trolling motors
EPOCH sells single-case 36V batteries; Battle Born’s approach is three 12V batteries in series. Single-case batteries remove series jumpers and balance issues, while separate 12V batteries are lighter to lift and fit split compartments. For single-case 36V comparisons, see Lithium Rhino vs EPOCH 36V.
Charging
Both use LiFePO4 profiles; Battle Born lists 14.2–14.6V charging for its 12V models. EPOCH makes its own lithium chargers, DC-DC chargers and a two-bank 12V/36V onboard charger. Either brand works with a properly configured LiFePO4 charger.
Warranty
EPOCH’s Essential and Elite listings show 11 years, Eco 6 years. Battle Born’s base series shows 5 years, and its larger models don’t list warranty terms in our store, so check Battle Born’s current terms directly.
Real-world scenarios
Sailboat with GC2 trays: Battle Born 12V 100Ah GC2, two or three in parallel.
Center console house battery in a group 24 tray: EPOCH 12V 105Ah Essential, or Eco to save money.
Trawler with a big inverter load: EPOCH 12V 300Ah or 460Ah, or several Battle Born 100Ah in parallel.
24V trolling motor, cold spring fishing: EPOCH 24V 60Ah Pro with heating.
Converting from lead-acid with either brand
The conversion steps are the same: measure the trays, choose batteries that fit, set every charger to a LiFePO4 profile, add a DC-DC charger for alternator charging if needed, and fuse each battery close to its positive terminal. Battle Born’s MRBF fuse and fuse block mount right on the battery post, which is handy in tight compartments. Replace corroded cables while you have access, and recalculate the bank size: lithium’s usable capacity means you can often install fewer amp-hours than the lead-acid bank you remove.
Mixing brands
Don’t mix brands or models within one series or parallel bank. You can, however, use one brand for the house bank and another for the trolling bank, as long as each bank has the right charging setup.
