Marine Batteries Shipped to Galveston, TX

Illustrated waterfront banner for Texas

Galveston Island sits at the mouth of Galveston Bay, the largest estuary on the Texas coast, about an hour from Houston. Its boaters can choose between big bay water, protected back lakes and the open Gulf in a single morning.

Marine Battery Source ships marine batteries to Galveston, TX. There’s no local storefront here, so everything ships from us: lithium batteries over $150 and lead-acid and AGM batteries go free by curbside truck freight, and chargers and accessories are free over $150.

The water around Galveston

Bolivar Roads, between the east end of the island and the Bolivar Peninsula, is the bay’s main entrance, guarded by the long Galveston and Bolivar jetties. West Bay runs behind the island toward San Luis Pass, with marsh lakes and shallow shorelines, while East Bay stretches along the back of Bolivar. Offshore Galveston Harbor and Pelican Island host marinas, charter docks and the busy Houston Ship Channel traffic headed up the bay.

Recommended setups

Twin-engine and offshore boats

Center consoles that run offshore from Galveston usually have one cranking battery per engine plus a house battery for electronics, pumps and lights. For cranking, a Group 27 or 31 AGM with high marine cranking amps is the common choice. A lithium dual-purpose battery like the EPOCH 172Ah can serve as a house battery and an emergency start, and it weighs a fraction of an equivalent AGM.

Bay boats and flats skiffs

Most bay boats on Galveston Bay run a 24V or 36V bow-mount trolling motor plus a separate cranking battery for the outboard. A 36V lithium bank, such as a single EPOCH 36V or Interstate 36V battery, replaces three Group 27 or 31 lead-acid batteries and drops well over 100 pounds from the stern, which helps a skiff float shallower. Keep the cranking battery separate so a long day on the trolling motor never leaves you unable to start.

Pontoons and party barges

Most pontoons on Galveston Bay run a single 12V battery for the engine, stereo, lights and maybe a small trolling motor. That works until the music runs through a long afternoon at anchor. A dual-purpose battery, AGM or lithium, handles both cranking and accessory loads better, and a second battery on a switch keeps starting power in reserve.

Typical boats around Galveston

Speckled trout, redfish and flounder are the bay’s big three, and the jetties are a classic spot for bull reds and sheepshead. Offshore boats run to platforms and reefs for red snapper, king mackerel and ling (cobia). Bay boats are the standard here, alongside center consoles and family pontoons in the calmer water.

Seasons and storage

Galveston Bay can build a steep chop quickly, and long runs across open bay water are hard on loosely mounted batteries. Use solid hold-downs and choose vibration-resistant AGM or lithium.

Hurricane season runs from June through November. Before a storm, charge and disconnect batteries, and if you haul out, store small lithium batteries indoors.

The northern Gulf Coast has long, hot summers and mild winters, with salt air and humidity year round. Heat is the main battery killer, so keep batteries charged and ventilated. Sealed AGM or lithium batteries are a good fit for boats that live in the water or on lifts.
