Marine Batteries Shipped to Long Beach Island, NJ

Illustrated waterfront banner for New Jersey

Long Beach Island is an 18-mile barrier island on the Jersey Shore, with Barnegat Lighthouse, known as Old Barney, at its north end and Beach Haven toward the south.

We don’t have a shop in Long Beach Island. Marine Battery Source is an online store, and we ship to Long Beach Island and the rest of New Jersey. Lithium batteries over $150 ship free by curbside truck freight to the lower 48. Chargers and accessories ship free when your cart reaches $150. Lead-acid and AGM batteries ship free by curbside truck freight too.

Typical boats around Long Beach Island

Fluke, striped bass, bluefish and weakfish are fished in the bay and inlets, and Barnegat Light’s fleet runs offshore for tuna. Crabbing and clamming are popular in the bay.

Boating around Long Beach Island

Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor lie behind the island, and the Route 72 causeway connects it to the mainland at Manahawkin. Barnegat Inlet, at the north end, can be dangerous in rough weather, and Beach Haven Inlet and Little Egg Inlet are at the south end. Ship Bottom, Surf City and Harvey Cedars are in between.

Most boats are hauled from fall to spring. Charge batteries fully before storage and keep lead-acid batteries on a maintainer.

Battery types and sizes for Long Beach Island

Offshore center consoles

Offshore boats depend on their batteries more than any other boat on Barnegat Bay: radar, sonar, chartplotters, livewells and VHF all draw power while drifting over a ledge. Size your house battery for a full day of electronics with the engines off, and keep it isolated from the cranking batteries with a switch or combiner. A multi-bank onboard charger keeps every battery topped up at the dock.

Flats skiffs and bay boats

In Long Beach Island, a typical inshore setup is a cranking battery for the outboard, two or three deep-cycle batteries for a 24V or 36V trolling motor, and an onboard charger to bring them all back overnight. Lithium is the popular upgrade because it holds full thrust until it is nearly empty and recharges quickly, but a good AGM deep-cycle battery is still a solid, lower-cost choice.

Pontoons and tritoons

A pontoon spends more time idling and anchored than running, so the engine has little chance to recharge the battery. Plugging in a charger after every trip, or switching to lithium with its faster charge acceptance, keeps a pontoon ready for the next evening cruise around Little Egg Harbor.

Seasons and storage

The bay’s channels are narrow and shallow in places, so boats idle a lot. Keep house and cranking batteries separate.

Standard lithium batteries should not be charged below freezing. If you plan to charge in cold weather, choose a lithium battery with internal heating, or charge only when temperatures are above freezing.

The Mid-Atlantic has a real boating season, from spring through fall, and most boats are hauled or laid up for winter. Before winter storage, charge batteries fully and either remove them or keep them on a maintenance charger. Lead-acid batteries can freeze if left discharged.

FAQ

How should I store my battery over a New Jersey winter?

Charge it fully first. Lead-acid and AGM batteries should stay on a maintainer or be topped up every month or two, because a discharged lead-acid battery can freeze and crack. Lithium batteries hold their charge for months; store them with the battery switch off and charge them only above freezing unless they have internal heating.

Do chargers and accessories ship free?

Chargers, accessories and lithium batteries of $150 or less ship free when your cart subtotal is $150 or more. Otherwise a flat shipping rate applies, shown at checkout.

Can you ship to my marina?

We can ship to most addresses, but marinas with restricted access or no way to receive freight may cost extra or need special arrangements. A home or business address is usually easiest. Contact us before you order if you want to ship to a marina.

Who schedules the delivery?

The freight carrier calls the delivery phone number you enter at checkout to set up a delivery window. Someone needs to be there to inspect the shipment and sign.
