Choosing a battery
What is the difference between cranking, deep-cycle and dual-purpose batteries?
Cranking (starting) batteries deliver a short, strong burst of power to start an engine. Deep-cycle batteries deliver steady power over a long time for trolling motors and electronics, and handle repeated discharging and recharging. Dual-purpose batteries do some of both and suit boats that only have room for one battery.
Which voltage does my trolling motor need?
Use the voltage your motor is rated for: 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V. You will find it on the motor’s label or in its manual. A 24V or 36V system can run on one battery of that voltage, or on two or three 12V batteries wired in series.
How do I pick the right capacity (amp hours)?
Amp hours (Ah) tell you how much energy a battery stores. More amp hours generally means longer run time. Think about how long you fish or cruise, your motor’s thrust and your electronics, and leave some reserve. We are happy to help you size a battery.
Lithium or AGM?
Lithium (LiFePO4) batteries weigh much less than lead-acid batteries of similar capacity, hold their voltage steady as they discharge and are designed for many charge cycles. AGM batteries cost less up front and are sealed and maintenance-free. The best choice depends on your boat, how you use it and your budget.
Charging and installation
Can I use my old charger with a lithium battery?
Only if it has a lithium (LiFePO4) charging profile. Chargers made for lead-acid batteries may not charge lithium batteries correctly. Check your charger’s manual or browse our chargers.
Can I replace my lead-acid batteries with lithium?
In most boats, yes. Check that the new battery fits your tray or box, matches your system voltage, and that your charger and any onboard charging sources support lithium.
Do you install batteries?
Yes, anywhere from Venice to Gainesville (Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Sumter, Marion, Polk, Lake and Alachua counties). Add installation on the product page: a flat $99 per battery, or $249 for a 24V or 36V lithium bank, with no travel charge. We haul the old battery away and waive the core charge. See Local Install for details.
How is installation scheduled?
After you order, we’ll contact you to schedule a time that works for you.
